Building a Personal Brand: Lessons from the Staffing Shark

If you have met Richard “The Staffing Shark” Rosner, you know he is the most energetic guy in the industry. With his boundless enthusiasm, Rosner has built a brand around positive mindset and growth mentality. An international speaker and podcaster with 10 years of experience in recruiting, sales, and management, he was recently awarded a World Staffing Award Top 100 Staffing Leaders to Watch in 2024.

Here are his top tips for building a personal brand:

1) Be Specific About Your Goals

A few years ago, Rosner knew he wanted to take it to the next level and shake up the staffing industry. He was determined to develop a memorable personal brand that would fit his outgoing personality. As he was sitting on a beach with a Landshark beer in hand, it came to him – The Staffing Shark. Someone who relentlessly pursues growth and development, is all about making waves in the industry –  and does it with a fun beach vibe and a smile. When thinking abut your own personal brand, start from what you want to accomplish and what best fits your ethos and personality.

2) Be Memorable

Rosner went all in on the Staffing Shark brand. You will find him at events in flipflops, bright colored shirts, and shark necklace. His social media channels are all geared toward the brand, from the colors on the graphics to the upbeat and positive language. When building your own brand, think about how to develop your own “voice” to the point of recognition, whether it’s through the way you communicate, a certain color you wear, or a memorable accessory like glasses or a hat.

3) Utilize Social Media

Rosner says that personal branding is so important these days, and one of his biggest tips is to use social platforms – especially video. You will find The Staffing Shark brand all over social, from LinkedIn to Facebook to YouTube. He says that getting the community involved is a game changer. A good way to build an audience and gain exposure is by sharing content and making connections with other people with followings in your industry. Appear on a podcast or an Instagram Live. Share a post and tag an influencer. It all helps!

4) Be Authentic

Rosner says that being authentic is what a personal brand is all about. Authenticity involves being genuine and true to yourself in every aspect of your brand, aligning your public image with your true personality and values. People can smell BS from a mile away. When you are authentically you, people can tell, and it will make a difference to your brand and to your success.
